The literal meaning of this song is about an alien who's home and way of life was destroyed, and lost. Now he is stuck on this planet as an outsider and the only solace he finds is the thoughts in his own head. Day dreaming about the life he had.

The metaphorical meaning could be feeling alone, like you don't fit in, like you are an alien amongst your own race and that the past way of life you had is gone. the future continues to shove it's way into the present and the past gets farther away.
